Promoting Unison with an Engaging Desktop Launcher

Client: Intel
Role: Designer
Agency: Brio Interaction Design
Year: 2024

Goal: Drive awareness and adoption of Intel’s Unison app by designing an attention-grabbing onboarding flow that highlights cross-device integration for new PC user

User research

We explored how users interact with pop-ups in the first moments of setting up a new Windows PC. We wanted to understand not only how users typically respond to these prompts, but also what actually makes them pause, pay attention, and feel compelled to engage.

Main issues
  • Users often ignore pre-installed tools - Most new PC users skip over default apps unless there’s immediate perceived value.

  • Unison’s benefits weren’t fully known - Most users were only aware of the phone call and messaging features, while other capabilities - like notification syncing, photo access, and screen extension - often went unnoticed.

  • Need to make users act fast - The interaction had to be compelling enough to drive app downloads immediately.

UX Decisions
  • Short, animated walkthrough - Highlighting the magic of Unison in under 10 seconds with a smooth, mobile-inspired animation.

  • Interactive components - Allowing users to preview Unison features before downloading.

UI Decisions
  • Playful but clean visual language - Balancing enterprise branding with consumer appeal.

  • Download CTA with strong visual hierarchy - Ensuring the action is unmistakable.

  • Modular, scalable UI - Designed to work on various screen sizes and PC configurations.
