Manage and Track Daily Tasks for Field Technicians

Year: 2024
Goal: Create a platform for managing and organizing tasks for technicians, with a focus on handling multiple tasks across various agricultural plots and coordinating numerous technicians.
User research
Exploring how users manage and track technicians' daily tasks on the current platform. The process included in-depth user interviews and field observations to better understand real-world workflows, needs, and pain points.
Main issues
Task overload: A massive number of tasks that need to be assigned to technicians.
Geographical complexity: Tasks are spread across various agricultural plots, often far apart.
Clarity of task status: The need for a clear visual distinction between assigned and unassigned tasks.
Visual prioritization: Differentiating tasks based on priority using visual cues.
Cumbersome flow: The assignment process is lengthy and complex, making it easy to lose track of tasks.
No personal task order: No option to organize the daily task order for an individual technician.
UX Decisions
Map-based planning: Adding a map view to provide spatial context, enable quick selection, and support geographic orientation.
Side-by-side interface: A technician panel was added, seamlessly overlaying the map or list.
Simplified flows: A minimalistic and intuitive design that supports a smooth task assignment process.
UI Decisions
Responsive web layout: Adapting the interface for web and utilizing screen space to display lists side by side.
Visual enhancements: Enhance clarity with colors, avatars, and icons.
Unified visual language: The same mark is used in the list and on the map to indicate task status and assignment.
Persistent filters: Filters, selections, and searches are preserved when switching between the list and the map.
