Breaking the Ice Through Playful Interactions
Fourth-year project at Shenkar College
Goal: Create a fun and easy-to-use app that helps people get to know each other in new settings — like a new workplace — through light, visual, and engaging gameplay.
User research
Understanding social discomfort: We conducted interviews and tested early ideas with people entering new social environments. We identified awkwardness, uncertainty about how to initiate interaction, and the desire for simple, pressure-free ways to connect.
Main issues
Social hesitation: People often don’t know how to break the ice in unfamiliar group settings.
Lack of shared starting point: There’s no natural way to start a conversation or discover common ground.
Need for lightness: Ice-breakers often feel forced or cheesy.
One-size-fits-all formats: Existing tools don’t adapt well to different group sizes, cultures, or comfort levels.
UX Decisions
Game-based format: Designed the experience around playful interactions instead of formal questions.
Visual discovery: Players engage by selecting images and answering lighthearted prompts.
Adaptive pacing: Sessions can be quick or extended depending on group dynamics.
UI Decisions
Bright and friendly design: Used a cheerful color palette and approachable illustrations.
Smooth onboarding: Quick intro screens guide users into the experience with no learning curve.
Playful tone: Lighthearted visuals and prompts aim to ease tension and invite participation.
